I Am and You Are One

Wherever I look there is only One,
one Life, one Breath, one Holiness
holding all.

This table is made of that Holiness,
this chair, this apple, this hand,
this droplet of water.
This arm by my side is also holy,
difficult to feel when it is at rest,
yet, always part of my body,
part of the One Body. part of the One Life.

Your own arm, do you know how
it feels when you are not moving it?
It is part of you at all times, yet you are
not conscious of its presence.
So, too, is the life of the Universe that you are
part of, that is part of you.
You are in it and it is in you,
as real as the table you sit by
and the chair you sit on,
yet unknown until it is known.

Open your senses.
Feel your cells yearning to breathe with new life,
table,
chair,
apple,
water,
arm,
hand,
mouth,
foot -
every part of you in sacred Union
with that which you live in,
with that which you move in,
forever joined in holiness.

“Two friends walk down a street together.

One sees people passing by in a blur,
only remembering the face of the one he is talking to.

The other remembers the smell of a bakery's sweet buns, the pale Spring green of a young tree planted on a corner, the blonde and pink streaked hair of a young girl gliding by on roller skates, a mother rocking her baby and talking to her.

What we pay attention to determines how we live.

There are times when intimate focus is needed, when our whole concentration needs to be on the one thing we are doing or feeling.
This may be another person, or it may be an idea, prayer, or thought we wish to keep in mind.

There are other times when our attention needs to be open and unfocused - moments when concentrated awareness gets in the way of experiencing what is.

Divinity lies in both places, for both can be alive with the sacred.

When we can let the sensory impressions of life come to us as a gift, we receive the blessings of living in a body.

For this gift is not only about perceiving the physical reality in which we live.

It is about perceiving what lies behind the physical - the soul nature of all things and the Source from which they come.

We can walk down the street as a person
feeling only the measure of time and space we occupy, or we can walk down the street as a soul feeling the sweet spiritual air of a sacred world unfolding.”

“To love without truth means to not see others, and therefore to relate to them in a shallow way. It also means to not be seen oneself, and therefore to pay the price of reduced intimacy. When we love without being truthful, we relate to others from the surface of ourselves. As a result, we may have difficulty feeling loving or that we are being loved.

On the other hand, to have truth but not love, means to fall prey to judgment about the limitations of others. It is to create distance from others through the restriction of our gentleness and compassion, both of which are needed to develop intimacy and to help someone change and grow. In each of our relationships, love and truth, gentleness and firmness, must be tied to each other in such a way that each permeates the other. Only in this way can our life with others remain in balance.

Even though love comes from the heart, our culture also defines which actions will be perceived by us as loving, and which will not.

Sometimes, it tells us that being truthful is not loving. Sometimes, it confuses us about what love really is.”

The desire to let go of defenses may be looked at
by some as weakness.
Yet, this very weakness is perceived as strength
within the realms of Spirit,
allowing truth to appear and trust to awaken.

In a time of darkness we become
part of the force that seeks to divide us,
or part of the love that seeks to unite us.
For energies of separation
work to polarize all points of view
so that conflict and discord prevail,
and the goals of peace and trust
are discredited as unreal.

In a time of light we do not have to
be vigilant to maintain the values
of love, for they are everywhere.
In a time of darkness we must pray
and listen that our voices
are voices that sanctify life,
that maintain respect,
that uphold the sacred.

This is our mandate as sacred beings,
and we offer it with every heartbeat,
and with every breath we take.

In this time of great conflict and
division between one group and another,
one belief and another,
and one view of government and another,
it becomes incumbent upon those who
care for the needs of the whole
to disengage from forces that would
create further division,
and instead to cling to the
principles of compassion and unity.
We may have difficulty locating these
principles within ourselves because of
feeling offended by another’s
point of view.
We may feel that there are
irreconcilable differences.
If we truly believe this,
we give power to those forces
that would separate America into pieces
so that it cannot come together
as the sacred whole it is meant to be.
It cannot unify under one banner, the
banner of Divine love and trust.
If we hold to this view, we empower
energies of separation to seek further
inroads into our minds and decisions,
rather than basing these on
the deeper truths that live within us.
Instead, we must view all persons as
more than their beliefs,
as souls created by the one Creator of All,
and in this light must disengage from
contempt, disrespect, or derision,
no matter how much we disagree.
We must choose to represent a higher
principle in which all are seen
as children of the Divine, coming from
the same sacred Source as ourselves.
As such, all must be accorded respect,
no matter what their beliefs.
When we do this,
we prevent the energy of separation
from gaining a foothold
within our minds and bodies,
and remain attached to the values
of our heart that are deepest within us.

We are a sacred world, a sacred nation,
and are meant to live together as one.
Let compassion be our guide then,
allowing us to see past faulty thinking
to the inner core of each soul that remains.
When we are guided in this way,
we uplift not only the level of discourse
as decisions are made that affect us,
we uplift the world as well.

“Irreconcilable Differences” from 'Poems for the New Earth'.

“Dear Beloved Ones,

There is an energy covering this land with increasing effect that masks itself in principle while at the same time removing itself from the true values of the heart. While seeming to advocate moral uprightness and concern for others, this energy is actually lacking in love and in all the qualities that derive from love such as kindness, gentleness, tolerance, and compassion. This energy influences our collective and individual consciousness so that we no longer remember the place in our hearts to return to when difficult events or circumstances are happening. We forget the place of love and trust that is intrinsic to our deeper nature, and become susceptible to the false energy that uses convincing words to create the impression that it has our best interests at heart.

This energy is an energy of ‘desecration.’ It removes us from remembrance of the sacred out of which love derives, for love, in all its many aspects, embraces the sacredness of life and of the beloved. It cannot act against itself because its nature is blessing and its hope is to give to the beloved. The energy of desecration wipes our memory of love as a viable possibility. It is not that we do not remember the word ‘love.’ It is that we no longer think of it as a valid means to live life and a valid foundation from which to act. The energy of desecration causes us to feel that only the more violent emotions of anger, despair, and fear are ‘reasonable’ reactions to events that surround us, and some of us are more vulnerable to one of these emotions, some to another.

The energy of desecration prevents us from remembering that the way of love is a force in the world that can change consciousness, and by changing consciousness, can change all the events that arise from an inner motivational place that we would wish to eradicate. The energy of desecration causes us to believe that only strength and force can change things. It causes us to believe that fear of what can happen to us without strengthening our capacity to use more force is the only viable reality.

We, who are participating in this time in history, have come here to do exactly that – to participate through our response to the events that surround us, events that are often difficult and upsetting to the heart because they are the opposite of the way we wish for human beings to behave toward each other. Nevertheless, we have come here to take part in and to bear witness to this time of difficulty, which is also a time of transition for this country and for the Earth as a whole, and how we do this depends upon what we believe.”

The heart that awakens must awaken
in its own time and way
according to the intentions of the soul.
Each awakens differently from every other.
Each is tuned to the specific purposes of the soul.

Do not think because the opening that
you yearn for has not yet arrived
that it is of your doing.
It is much more likely that there are
healing issues of importance which delay
this greatly desired manifestation,
and Divine timing which seeks
to bring about the perfect unfoldment
of your soul in its own way and time.

Awakening is not a matter of your will,
but of your heart’s desire combined with
the desire of the Oneness
that you come into wholeness within yourself.

Be patient, then, and allow time to unfold
the awareness that is uniquely yours.
Be patient, and pray to have what is
needed revealed to you according to
Divine Will in service to the good of all.
